Latest reports have revealed that President Biden has approved 3000 soldiers for deployment to Germany, Poland, and Romania as the Ukrainian crisis further heats up. Are we witnessing the beginning of the 3rd World War?
For several weeks now, the Russia-Ukraine crisis has put NATO on red alert! With Russia lining up troops and demanding Ukraine’s bar from NATO, the intentions of a probable invasion could not be denied.
While Russia sent its clear list of security demands to the US demanding Ukraine’s debar from NATO, the USA responded with a firm rejection, offering Russia a diplomatic way forward “should Russia choose it”.
It was clear that situations could easily go messy and Biden’s force deployment is indicative of the same.
The 3rd World War: Provocations!
Once the US openly responded to Russia’s demands, Putin addressed his first comments saying that NATO and Washington has clearly ignored Kremlin’s “fundamental concerns”
On Tuesday, Putin further commented the West was trying to provoke Moscow into war.
A day after, Biden told a news briefing that 300 troops are being repositioned to be deployed to Poland, Romania, and Germany.
Specifications of the Deployment:
- 1000 troops that are currently based in Germany are being moved to Romania
- 2000 troops will be sent from the USA to Poland and Germany
Where is Diplomacy?
So far into the journey of human evolution, we would expect war to be the last resort and it comes as rather unacceptable that such a crisis has already arrived. It’s natural to question why aren’t the nations choosing the diplomatic way forward?
To be fair, energetic diplomacy has and is continuing to avert the threats of the Russian invasion into Ukraine, but the worst-case scenario can not be denied.
How close are we to the war?
Recent satellite images have revealed that Russia has strengthened its military deployment in Belarus, Crimea and western Russia.
With the USA sending its forces out, we can pretty much sense the severity of the situation. While we can not overlook the heart-wrenching possibility of a 3rd World War, we can only hope diplomacy prevails over armed confrontations.
