“The Americal Dream”, a phrase that has travelled time and borders to become a goal for millions of people in America and the rest of the world. A dream of quality, opportunity, and acceptance that promises nothing but a better life, and New York, is arguably the biggest part of that dream.
But with the recent incidents in the various part of the state has posed a serious question, is New York a Safe City to Live in?
1 week ago a devastating headline hit the world media: 20 injured in Brooklyn Subway Attack.
A man wearing a gas mask filled a crowded subway car with thick dark smoke and open fire at passengers. The man had fled the location leaving behind “A 9mm semi-automatic handgun and extended magazines, a hatchet, a black garbage can, detonated and undetonated smoke grenades and a key to a U-Haul van”, as reported by the Guardian.
In a matter of a few days, another tragedy has hit the streets of New York:
Body of New York mother found in a duffel bag near her home, stabbed 58 times
The incident took place in Queens, N.Y., and was reported by the locals to authorities on Saturday morning, around 8 AM. The mother of 2, aged 51 was stabbed 58 times in the torso, neck, arm and hand. The bag was found with a trail of blood stretching back to her home nearby.
The husband and the two sons, aged 13 and 17, were initially the people of interest, but are no longer suspects. But it is still not clear who killed Gaal and why.
With these subsequent acts of crime, a larger air of loom can be felt looming in the air. Leaving New Yorkers in awe. All we can do at this point is watch our backs and hope not to wake up to such headlines anymore.
