Kyle Lovett is probably best-known as an Australian professional rugby league footballer who previously played for the Wests Tigers in the National Rugby League.
But there’s much more to this former footballer than meets the eye.
Kyle has reinvented himself as an ardent film director and actor. Just observe Kyle on set, it’s clear to see his true passion for the craft shines through.
When asked what his favourite role to play is, he said:
“What do I prefer more: acting, writing or directing? To be honest, I can’t choose! I’m loving doing all three, so I’m just going to continue doing that’“.
Kyle’s latest production is being shot in Sydney and is called Lickerish. It’s his debut feature film.
The Lifestyle Time’s editor Despina spent time some on set with Kyle, and discussed all things football to future plans.
Thanks for your time today Kyle! Tell our readers about you! Where are you from and what do you do?
I’m from Leichhardt in the inner city of Sydney. I’m 29 years old. I’m a former NRL player for the Wests Tigers and now an aspiring actor and filmmaker.
Talk to us about your career in film, how’d you get started and what sparks your passion for it?
I got into the industry when I was playing rugby league in the UK and decided to do a acting course in Manchester. I had done commercials and modelling in Sydney while playing NRL, so I decided to take it to another level with the acting course.
My writing and filming making started way back when I was child, I always loved writing stories and movies scenes and even writing songs.
So I decided a couple years ago I’ll get back into it and i got the spark for it again instantly and wrote my first short film – Boys Light Up which I released in 2020 and now I’ve wrote – Lickerish, my debut feature film which I’m halfway through making at the moment.
What’s your creative process like? How do you put together ideas and write scripts?
I’ll usually try to write something that hasn’t been done too many times before and something I’d enjoy to watch. I’ll research stuff I’m interested in, life experiences, gather cool compelling ideas for scenes and begin mapping out how to tell the story.
Talk to us about your current film ‘Lickerish’, what makes it unique and when will it be released?
Lickerish is a upbeat drama set in Sydney with a mixture of rags to riches and life lessons that sometimes you learn too late in life. Fast paced, action packed with an emotional touch. It will be released in 2023.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years and what can people expect to see in the near future?
In 5 years, I see myself happy and healthy and fulfilling my dreams and goals I have pursued with my family, friends and loved ones by my side.
What’s your advice for those wanting to enter the Entertainment industry?
My advice is to go for it, be yourself, don’t worry what others are doing or what they think you should do. A lot of people get worried their dream might not work out and then they’ll have nothing, but if you choose what you truly love, you can’t help but receive everything. You honestly can be whatever it is you want, as clique as that sounds, go try it, you’ll see. I believe when you wake up in the morning you’re already blessed and you never know how long you’re going to be on this earth for, so why not do what you love and makes you happy.
