Many people underestimate the importance of consuming enough protein in their diet. And I’m not just talking about sustaining muscle mass or building a booty. I am talking hair lingo.
Eating adequate protein is important for hair growth because hair follicles are made of mostly protein. A lack of protein in the diet has been shown to promote hair loss. Biotin is essential for the production of a hair protein called keratin, which is why biotin supplements are often marketed for hair growth.
nterestingly, your hair grows around 0.5 inches (1.25 cm) per month, and 6 inches (15 cm) per year. How fast it grows depends on factors like age, health, genetics and diet.
Although you can’t change factors like age and genetics, diet is one thing you have control over. In fact, consuming a diet lacking the right nutrients can lead to hair loss.
Here’s what you SHOULD BE EATING for optimal hair growth:
- 10g of protein per day for each 10kg of body fat. (70kg= 70g of protein)
- Good quality protein snacks- Greek yoghurt, tuna, ham and goats cheese etc.
- Include protein at every meal!
- 1 tbsp of Collagen power EVERY DAY (about 12g of protein a serve)
